We’re looking for a Director of Engineering Retail Platform to join Oda!
In this role, you will be a key leader in defining the technology and architectural future of our Retail Platform, which powers the online grocery experience for thousands of customers in Norway and Sweden.
You'll work side-by-side with Engineering Managers, Product Leads, and Executive stakeholders, focusing on developing a high-performing engineering organization and ensuring alignment between technical vision, product goals, and business strategy.
You will also be actively involved in guiding system architecture and execution across the platform, bringing your extensive technical expertise to deliver high-quality, scalable, and robust solutions that enable rapid company growth and market expansion.

What you’ll be doing as Director of Engineering Retail Platform 💡
Strategic Technology Leadership & Vision
Engineering Strategy: Define and execute the technical strategy and roadmap for the Retail Platform, ensuring alignment with the overall company technology strategy, product goals, and business needs.
Technical Vision: Establish and communicate a clear, long-term technical vision for the Retail Platform architecture, systems, and engineering practices.
Innovation & Standards: Foster a culture of innovation, driving the adoption of best-in-class technologies and setting high engineering standards (e.g., performance, security, reliability, maintainability) across all Retail Platform teams.
Technical Execution & Excellence
Delivery & Quality: Oversee the end-to-end delivery of all technology within the Retail Platform, ensuring high-quality, scalable, and robust solutions are built and maintained.
Architecture: Guide the system architecture decisions for the Retail Platform, ensuring technical debt is managed and future scalability requirements are met.
Technology Enablement: Collaborate with the Director of Product Strategy & Operations, UX Lead, and Data Lead to ensure technology choices and engineering capacity effectively enable product and business strategies.
Cross-Platform Collaboration: Work closely with other Engineering Directors and Platform Leads to ensure seamless integration and leveraging of shared technology components and standards.
People Leadership & Governance
People Development: Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of 25 people, including engineering managers and senior individual contributors, fostering a healthy, inclusive, and highly productive engineering culture.
Resource Management: Manage resource allocation, capacity planning, and budgeting for the Retail Platform engineering team to ensure efficient execution against strategic priorities.
Process Optimization: Continuously improve engineering processes, including development methodologies, deployment pipelines, and operational incident response, to maximize efficiency and reliability.
Stakeholder Engagement: Act as the primary technical point of contact for the Retail Platform, effectively communicating technical strategy, progress, and risks to the CTO, Chief Retail Platform, and other key stakeholders.
What you’ll need to succeed 🌟
Extensive experience in software engineering and architecture, with a significant portion in a leadership capacity (e.g., Engineering Manager, Director of Engineering, CTO in a smaller company or similar).
Proven track record of defining and executing technology strategy and roadmaps for complex, high-scale platforms, ideally in an e-commerce, retail, or logistics domain.
Deep technical expertise in building and operating reliable, scalable, and secure systems.
Strong leadership skills with experience managing and mentoring high-performing teams of engineering managers and senior individual contributors.
Excellent understanding of modern software development methodologies and operational best practices.
Demonstrated ability to drive technical excellence and foster a culture of continuous improvement in engineering standards, quality, and velocity.
Proficiency in guiding system architecture decisions to balance technical debt, business needs, and future scalability.
Strong strategic and analytical thinking with the ability to translate business goals into clear technical objectives.
Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, capable of effectively articulating technical vision and progress to both technical and executive audiences.
Experience collaborating cross-functionally with product management, design (UX), and data science leadership.
A customer-centric mindset with a focus on delivering solutions that provide real business value and excellent user experience.
Solid understanding of cloud platforms and infrastructure.
Ability to manage incident response and operational processes to ensure high system reliability and availability.
Experience scaling technology and teams during periods of rapid company growth or market expansion.

This is a permanent, full-time role, based at our modern offices in Tøyen, Oslo.
